Iran condemns UAE deal with Israel, saying it’s a ‘huge mistake’

Iran and Turkey lashed out at the UAE, a regional rival, accusing it of betraying the Palestinians, Arabs and Muslims.

But the agreement, and the decision to pause annexation, was welcomed by much of the international community, including Egypt and the Gulf Arab nations of Bahrain and Oman. Many countries, including Germany, France, Italy, China and India, expressed hope it would help revive the peace process.

Iranian envoy in Venezuela Hojjat Soltani strongly rejected a Wall Street Journal report claiming that the US has seized four Iranian tankers, while another official in similar remarks said neither the ship nor the cargo belong to Iran.

“Another lie and psychological war from the Imperialist propaganda apparatus of the US,” wrote Soltani on his Twitter account on Friday, adding, “Neither are the tankers Iranian nor do their owner or flags have anything to do with Iran.”

He noted that terrorist Trump cannot make up for his humiliation and defeat against the great Iranian nation through false propaganda.

Meantime, a Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) official also denied the report, saying, "Neither the ships nor their crude or fuel cargos were Iranian".

WSJ had claimed in a report on Friday that the Trump administration has for the first time confiscated cargo in vessels allegedly loaded with Iran fuel in violation of sanctions.

It quoted US unnamed US officials as saying that the four ships, Luna, Pandi, Bering and Bella, were seized on the high seas in recent days and are now en route to Houston, Texas.

Early in June, five Iranian oil tankers carrying millions of barrels of gasoline and components entered the ports of the fuel-starved South American country and came back to Iran.

The ships, their cargoes and their insurance papers had all been issued by Iran.

President Maduro appreciated Iran, China, Russia and Cuba for their assistance to Caracas, describing them as the real friends of his country.

"Humanitarian aid is coming from China, Russia, Iran and Cuba. They are (Venezuela’s) true friends," Maduro said in a speech broadcast by the state TV.

Maduro said he would visit Iran once health conditions resulting from the new coronavirus outbreak permit in order to thank the Iranian government and sign a “high-level bilateral agreement strengthening energy, financial and military ties”.

“I am obliged to go to personally thank the people,” Maduro said in a state television address, without providing a date for the visit.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) attacked at least two US military facilities on late Tuesday, as part of its "hard revenge" for killing Iran's top military commander Gen. Qassem Soleimani on 3 January.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said that Tehran took and accomplished proportionate measures in self-defense in accordance with the UN Charter when it targeted the US military bases in Iraq.

He added that Iran is not seeking any war or escalation, but will act in defence against any aggression.

Iran took & concluded proportionate measures in self-defense under Article 51 of UN Charter targeting base from which cowardly armed attack against our citizens & senior officials were launched.

Approximately 35 missiles were launched by the IRGC towards military bases in Ayn al-Asad and Erbil, where American military personnel is deployed at the moment. Later, the second series of rockets were fired towards US targets in Iraq, Iranian state TV reported.

Tehran dubbed the operation "Martyr Soleimani", designed as a "hard revenge" for Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in the targeted US attack on the Baghdadi International Airport on 3 January. Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei warned later that "harsh vengeance awaits the criminals" that killed the commander, who was one of the most prominent political figures in the country.

There have been no casualties reported so far on the side of the US personnel, Washington officials said. Assessment of damage and casualties is taking place.

President Donald Trump is going to make a statement on the attacks on Wednesday morning.

A military source from Tehran said that Iranian military jets are airborne and currently flying in border areas as the operation takes place.

Tehran, Jan 7, IRNA - Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Tuesday and on the sideline of 'Tehran Dialogue Forum' in separate interviews with four top US media and the Al Jazeera network outlined Iran's stance on current developments in the region following assassination of top Iranian commander.

In separate interviews with four American media (CNN-ABC-CBS- NPR) and Al Jazeera Network, Zarif elaborated the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran on current developments in the region together with the JCPOA.

In the interviews, Zarif called the assassination of the martyr Qasem Soleimani a strategic mistake by the US regime that would put an end to the US presence in the region.

The head of the diplomatic apparatus reiterated: Iran's response to the recent US evils is being operational at the right time and place.

In an interview with reporters earlier this afternoon, Zarif told reporters on Tuesday that Iran doesn't expect neighbors to fight the US, but believes they shouldn’t sacrifice their neighbors for the US.

He made the remarks while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the ongoing "Tehran Dialogue Forum" which is held with the participation of Omani Foreign Minister Yousef bin Alavi and the former President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai.

Commenting on the regional issues, Zarif said the region has two perception problems: one inside and one outside. Everyone saw that, with assassinating Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani, US President Donald Trump proved that he has "wrong" advisers.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps started heavy ballistic missile attacks on US Ein Al-Assad airbase in Southwestern Iraq near the border with Syria in retaliation for the assassination of IRGC Qods Force Commander Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani earlier on Wednesday.

Ein Al-Assad is an airbase with a 4km runway at 188m altitude from sea levels, which is the main and the largest US airbase in Iraq.

The IRGC issued a statement saying it has fired tens of ground-to-ground missiles at "the airbase occupied by the terrorist and aggressive army of the United States known as Ein Al-Assad" in reprisal for the martyrdom of IRGC Qods Force Commaner Lieutenant General Qassem Soleimani.

The IRGC warned the US to avoid retaliating the Wednesday attack or else "it will face a more painful and crushing response".

The IRGC Statement also warned "all the US allied states where the terrorist army has a base, any territory that becomes the origin of any hostile and aggressive action against the Islamic Republic of Iran in any way will be targeted".

"We believe that the Zionist regime by no means stands aside from the criminal US regime in these crimes."

The IRGC also called on the American nation to pressure the White House to pull their troops our of the region to avoid further damage and not allow the US rulers to endager the lives of their military men through increasing hatred.

Lieutenant General Soleimani was martyred in a targeted assassination attack by the US drones at Baghdad International Airport early on Friday morning.

The airstrike also martyred Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), or Hashad al-Shaabi. The PMF media arm said the two were martyred in an American airstrike that targeted their vehicle on the road to the airport.

Five Iranian and five Iraqi militaries were martyred by missiles fired by the US drone at Baghdad International Airport.

The Pentagon confirmed the attack in a statement.

The attack came amid tensions that started by the US attack on PMF units that killed 28 Iraqi popular forces. A day later, Iraqi people attacked the US embassy in Baghdad. On Wednesday President Donald Trump ordered about 750 US soldiers deployed to the Middle East.

US officials earlier suggested they were to engage in further retaliatory attacks in Iraq.

The developments also represent a major downturn in Iraq-US relations that could further undermine US influence in the region and American troops in Iraq and weaken Washington’s hand in its pressure campaign against Iran.

US President Donald Trump was vacationing on his estate in Palm Beach, Florida, but sent out a tweet of an American flag.

The attack represents a dramatic escalation by the US toward Iran after months of tensions. The tensions take root in Trump’s decision in May 2018 to withdraw the US from Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers, struck under his predecessor.
