Police: Secret Service officer shoots suspect dead after they allegedly broke into Peruvian ambassador home

Family members were inside during the intrusion and the investigation is still ongoing, DC Police confirmed.

When U.S. Secret Service officers arrived on the scene, they found someone who had smashed several windows in the rear yard of the property, Contee said.

Contee said the suspect was armed with a "metal stake" and at one point approached officers. The ambassador and his wife were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were not hurt.
