WATCH Russian Jet Su-57 Cruising Without Canopy to Protect Pilot ‘From Freezing’

The Sukhoi Su-57, formerly known as the ‘PAK FA’ or T-50, is a "super maneuverable" fifth-generation strike fighter with stealth characteristics and the latest Russian avionics and weapons systems. The jet formally entered mass production in 2019, with Russia’s Aerospace Forces set to receive at least 76 of the planes before 2028.

The video, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the founding of the legendary Chkalov State Flight Test Center, includes several seconds of footage of a Su-57 flying without its canopy.

The US military no longer engages in flight testing of jets sans-canopy, although some of its allies have been known to test-fly military aircraft without their protective Plexiglas shield.
