Donald J. Trump Gears up to 'Save America' - The 2022 Elections

"If you're a supporter of Donald Trump you may well have got a text message yesterday. Phones were beeping across America, particularly in red states. It was Mr Trump texting to let his base know that official "Make America Great Again" hats are on sale once more. The former president's online store was shut down by Shopify but, three months later, it is back, hosted on a Republican internet platform called WinRed. Mr Trump's new theme is "Save America".

Cash from the online store will go to the "Save America" political action committee, which Mr Trump founded on November 9, six days after the election."Save America" already has $85 million in the bank from donations, even before the imminent deluge of funds from Trump-themed paraphernalia. That is a huge amount this far ahead of Congressional elections in 2022, and the next presidential contest in 2024. It means Mr Trump is going to have vast resources to back candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives next year.

He will be able to catapult politicians in his own image to the front of the field in Republican primaries, and ultimately into Congress.

This weekend, Mr Trump will speak at the Republican National Committee's annual spring retreat for donors, which is being held at Mar-a-Lago. Separately, a four-day "Save America Summit" is being held this week at Doral, his Florida golf course, by Women for America First. It will feature some of Mr Trump's most strident supporters in Congress. To head his expanding fundraising operation he has just brought in Susie Wiles, a veteran Republican political operative who helped him win Florida twice, in 2016 and 2020. Former close aides, including Corey Lewandowski, Stephen Miller, and Brad Parscale, are all busily working away on projects.

This is clearly not a man settling into political retirement."
