This weekend on Saturday 19, September, 2020, the annual expansion of the White Cross Monument in Polokwane (Pietersburg), South Africa will take place, commemorating over 2000 farm murders in South Africa since 1990.
This year there have been 304 farm attacks and 46 farm murders through Sept. 15, despite a stringent COVID lockdown. In August, 2020 there were 52 farm attacks and 9 farm murders. In July, there were 58 attacks and 9 murders.
In 2019, there were 472 farm attacks and 49 farm murders.
Between 1990 and 2016 there were a total of 1‚824 Farm Attack Victims, with a farm murder rates between 97 and 133 per 100,000 people. 3 times the national average.
What is the White Cross Monument?
The White Cross Monument is a memorial site for victims that were raped, tortured and murdered in South Africa over the past 18 years. The monument is unique in the world as it grows annually, with more crosses being added each year, to commemorate the latest victims of Systematic Genocide.

Definition of a Farm Attack
The National Priority Committee for Rural Safety defines a Farm Attack as follows: Acts of violence against farms and smallholdings are those acts aimed at any person or persons living on, working at or visiting farms or smallholdings with the intent to either murder, rape, rob or otherwise inflict bodily harm or to intimidate. It is important to note that cases "Social Fabric Crime", ie. cases of domestic violence and/or crimes caused by a dispute between family and/or friends are not included in the definition of a farm attack.
