Democrat, North Texas Mayoral Candidate Arrested for Mail-Ballot Voter Fraud, Charged with 109 Felonies

Texas authorities announced Thursday, October 8, 2020 they had arrested and charged a Democrat mayoral candidate in the Dallas area with election fraud, accusing him of running a scam to request absentee ballots in other voters’ names.

Carrollton mayoral candidate Zul Mirza Mohamed was charged Wednesday with 109 felonies for fraudulently requesting and obtaining mail-in ballots he alleged were for nursing home residents.

According to a press release from Denton County Sheriff Tracy Murphree, his office was tipped off to the possible mail-ballot harvesting scheme on September 23 by the Denton County Elections Office.

“Voter fraud is a serious and widespread issue and cannot be tolerated,” said Murphree. “The fact that an actual candidate for public office would engage in these activities is appalling. We will continue to aggressively investigate allegations of voter fraud.”

Officials say absentee ballots had been requested to be sent to a P.O. Box in Lewisville, that was supposed to belong to a nursing home facility. When investigators made contact with the Carrollton residents whose ballots had been requested they learned that none of the residents had asked for ballots be mailed to the PO Box.

Further investigation revealed the PO Box had been obtained with a fictitious Texas driver license and a fictitious University of North Texas student ID.

Records show deputies packed a tracking device in a box of mail-in ballots that they returned to the Lewisville address. A Denton County Sheriff’s Deputy working undercover as a clerk at the parcel business handed the box containing the ballots to a man who requested the mail for that rented box on Wednesday.

Authorities followed the man to an address in Carrollton that turned out to be the home of Zul Mohamed.

Election Result:

Republican, Carrollton Mayor Kevin Falconer has received 80.9 percent of the early votes in his bid for re-election over challenger Zul Mohamed.

Falconer has received 37,243 votes to Mohamed’s 8,801.
