Biden Blocks Uranium Mining Near Grand Canyon

President Joe Biden and members of his administration are seriously considering designating a million acres of land surrounding the Grand Canyon as a new national monument.

The purpose of such a plan?

To make sure there is no more uranium mining in the area.

Following years of lobbying by local Native American tribes and environmental advocates, Biden looks ready to make a drastic decision around the second most visited national park in America.

Although it appears pretty clear that the administration is leaning one direction over the other, White House spokesperson Abdullah Hasan said that "no decisions have been made on the monument."

The potential action by our federal government follows a request from Native American tribes to safeguard 1.1 million acres of public land surrounding the national park by naming that land the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument.
