Russia successfully launched the massive Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile ICBM from Plesetsk cosmodrome in Mirny

Russia has successfully test-launched the massive intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) from Plesetsk cosmodrome in Mirny, Arkhangelsk Oblast, about 800 kilometers north of Moscow.

The missile was developed as a replacement for the ICBM R-36M2 (NATO Reporting Name SS-18 Satan). It is expected to be effective in destroying enemy strategic targets around the globe with kinetic impact energy and without the use of the nuclear warhead.

The test was aimed at studying the characteristics and behavior of the missile during launch, an official statement from the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.

All calculated characteristics are confirmed. Training warheads arrived in a given area in Kamchatka, according to the Ministry of Defense.

This is the irst successful launch of the Sarmat "super-heavy" intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) (NATO reporting name: SS-X-29)
