NYC Homeless People in Upper West Side hotel say moving downtown will result in 'massive psychological damage'

New York City halts transfer of 235 homeless people from Upper West Side hotel after residents at the makeshift shelter say moving downtown to the Radisson would cause 'massive psychological damage'

  • Hundreds of homeless people were set to be moved from the Upper West Side to the Financial District starting Monday morning
  • Ramone Buford, Larry Thomas and Travis Trammell filed legal action against NYC saying it would cause 'massive psychological damage' and 'irreparable harm'
  • The City made plans to move them after people living near The Lucerne hotel complained of rampant drug use and lewd displays from the shelter residents
  • However other locals protested that the Upper West Side is for all New Yorkers
  • Residents and businesses in Manhattan's Financial District filed legal action last week to stop the displaced people from being moved to the Radisson downtown
  • An affidavit from the homeless men on Sunday said a move would result in some of the 235 people losing jobs and access to programs provided at The Lucerne
  • Later on Monday a judge said that the emergency order stands and that they will not evict the residents from the hotel
