Texas Employers Throw Staff Out into a Cold Financial Abyss

Texans who couldn't work from home because they didn't have power will have to vacation or forfeit their pay for days they missed, their employers say.

These are not small businesses, either. Several large companies are among them, such as Bell Textron Inc.—formerly known as Bell Helicopter—United Ag & Turf, BAE Systems, and the City of Dallas itself.

And workers are seething.

  • Dozens of employers in Texas have told employees unable to get to work or work remotely because of power loss that must use vacation for any days missed
  • Those with no vacation days left or those unwilling to forfeit holiday, however, will be forced to go without pay
  • Among the employers in question are several large entities, including Bell Textron Inc., United Ag & Turf, BAE Systems, and even the City of Dallas
  • It comes as many in the state have received sky-high electricity bills in the region of thousands of dollars, amid surges in wholesale pricing during Storm Uri
